Custom Coffee Table
Recently I tried to appraise an ornate door panel that was gifted to me by my parents. They had found it in an antique store so we all assumed it was a vintage gem, especially because it was such a heavy piece. After doing a lot of research and getting a close inspection of the panel in person I realized what we thought was a wood panel was actually just mdf, or engineered wood. Even though the door panel was a vintage reproduction it was still beautiful and worthy of a spot in our home. I decided to upcycle the door into a coffee table, and with just $20 of hairpin leg hardware and some screws I was able to create a custom piece.
Installing hairpin legs is one of the easier DIY projects, requiring only some patience and a drill to install. The most difficult part of this upcycle was finding the correct place to install the legs, because you don't want to place them at the very ends of the panel as that won't correctly support the weight of the heavy piece. Amazon sells the set we used, which is rated up to 300lbs. Note, we include this affiliate link to find the same product we used. Learn more about our product links here.
